The Thurgood Marshall Bar Association ("TMBA") is a contemporary bar association committed to connect, support, and increase the Black legal community in Orange County. TMBA strives to promote diversity, professional improvement, and the advancement of justice through positive community involvement and excellence in the practice of law for the Black legal community, allies, and the community at large. TMBA works to increase diversity and inclusion both within the legal community and the broader Orange County community. TMBA's membership reflects this commitment to diversity through the principles of equality and inclusion.

On September 20, 2018, TMBA is hosting a panel presentation entitled “Excessive Force and Police Brutality from the Minority Perspective” at Chapman University Fowler School of Law.  The event will be held in Kennedy Hall (Room 142) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

We have a wonderful line-up of panelists including Katharine Tinto (Clinical Professor of Law and Director, Criminal Justice Clinic, UCI Law), John Gibson, Esq. (Partner, Crowell & Moring), Jamon Hicks, Esq. (Partner, Douglas Hicks Law), Minister Charles Dorsey (Christ Our Redeemer Church), and Christian Pereira, Esq. (Owner, Law Offices of Christian Pereira).  The Panel will be moderated by TMBA Board Member Denise Carter, Esq. from JAMS.

Each of our panelists have direct and personal experiences dealing with issues of police misconduct and excessive force issues, from litigating cases in Los Angeles and Orange County regarding these concerns, to engaging in community activism to support and improve relationships between the community and law enforcement.

• Gold Sponsor:  $500, which includes sponsorship recognition on the event flyer and all online announcements for this event.
