Hello Thurgood Marshall Bar Association (“TMBA”) Members, Friends and Supporters:

Happy Juneteenth! This is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865 end of slavery in the U.S by way of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Illunimation Event members outside house smilingWe would like to thank all of the TMBA Members and Supporters who volunteered and donated school supplies to the Illumination Foundation at our first volunteer event on May 11, 2018. We had a great time making crafts, doing yoga/dance, and playing dodgeball with the wonderful children at the Children’s Resource Center.

A very special thank you to all of the folks who came out on a Friday during work hours to make the event a success, including: Sherry S. I am so happy to provide the April 2018 update to our members and supporters!

We just recently had a successful “AfterGlow” Mixer on April 7, 2018 to celebrate the Inaugural Gala of the Black Law Students Association of UCI School of Law (“BLSA”).  Congratulations to BLSA! Thank you to everyone who came out to support BLSA and TMBA at the Gala and AfterGlow event.

Our Board is hard at work to plan TMBA’s first ever Volunteer Service Activity in collaboration with the Illumination Foundation, whose mission is to “Break the Cycle of Homelessness.”

On Friday, May 11, 2018, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., TMBA members will volunteer at the Illumination Foundation’s Afterschool program for homeless children between the ages of five and twelve years old.  At the event we will participate in arts and crafts and yoga with all the children. TMBA is also making a donation of backpacks and school supplies for the 45 children involved in the program.

Please join us on May 11th for this wonderful event. WE NEED TEN VOLUNTEERS to donate their time to serve alongside TMBA Board Members. Please email us if you would like to sign up for the event.

Thank you for your continued support of TMBA!

We are excited to announce that TMBA has partnered with a local non-profit, The Illumination Foundation, for the 2018 - 2019 term.  The Illumination Foundation works with homeless families and children in Orange County to provide housing, resources and suppprt for those in need.

We will be donating our time to serve and mentor homeless children that are part of the Illumination Foundation’s Children’s Resource Center, an after school enrichment program for homeless children. We hope that you all can join us in May 2018 and November 2018 for our volunteer night at the Children Resource Center. Stay tuned as there are more details to come.

We are fast approaching the Inaugugal UCI Law Black Law Student Association Gala, scheduled for April 7, 2018. TMBA is a sponsor of the event and will have multiple board members in attendance.  Please visit this link if you still have not yet purchased tickets.
